About These Birds

New Britain Bronzewing

Medium-large terrestrial pigeon, 30–33 cm, similar to New Guinea Bronzewing but with a white head (not just forehead). Confined to lowland forests of New Britain in the Bismarck Archipelago. Feeds on seeds and fallen fruits on the forest floor. Least Concern.

Brown-backed Dove

Medium dove, 25–28 cm, brown above with a rufous-brown back, grey head, and pale underparts. Confined to Coiba Island and adjacent small islands off western Panama. Inhabits lowland forest. Terrestrial frugivore and granivore. Near Threatened due to the restricted island range.
