Resident of rocky semi-arid hillsides in northwestern China (Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang) and adjacent Mongolia, at 1,500–3,500 m.

Orange-necked Partridge

Endemic to southern Vietnam and Cambodia. Found in lowland evergreen forest and secondary growth. Poorly known.

About These Birds

Przevalski's Partridge

A large Phasianidae partridge (~553 g) of rocky semi-arid terrain and loess gullies in the Gansu corridor and adjacent Yellow River basin, northern China. Closely related to Chukar but notably larger. Feeds on seeds, leaves, and invertebrates. Tolerates cold winters; forms winter coveys. Least Concern.

Orange-necked Partridge

A small partridge (~240 g) of family Phasianidae, with a vivid orange neck and throat patch. Endemic to a small area of evergreen forest in southeastern Vietnam and possibly adjacent Cambodia. Inhabits lowland and foothill forest. Forages on the forest floor for seeds and invertebrates. Near Threatened; extremely restricted range with significant deforestation and active hunting pressure in southeastern Vietnam.
